History

North India is a loosely defined region consisting of the northern part of India. The term North India officially refers to the states of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and the Union Territories of Delhi and Chandigarh.

Delhi is not just the capital of India but also the heart of the nation. Delhi is historically and culturally connected to almost all the northern states of India. Delhi's culture has been influenced by its lengthy history and historic association as the capital of India. This is exemplified by many significant monuments in the city. Delhi is also identified as the location of Indraprastha, the ancient capital of the Pandavas. Most of the leading actors, directors, producers belong to Delhi or North India.

Delhi or North India contributed more than 80% of talent to Bollywood/Indian cinema in its century old history. The revenue generated by Bollywood is directly or indirectly due to people who belongs to northern part of India.

Leading Actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol, Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor and many others belongs to the northern part of the nation.

India's premiere drama school National School of Drama is also based in Delhi. All the major news channels/agencies are also based in Delhi. Global events like Formula-1 racing, Common Wealth Games and recenly World Cultural Festival took place in Delhi Itself. Even after having such a huge talent pool, India didn't manage to get its own film Industry. Due to which all the talent is forced to look to other cinema industries in India like Bollywood, Telegu cinema, Tamil cinema, Marathi cinema, Malyalam cinema, Kannad cinema etc.

Relocating from Delhi to other states makes difficult for the new talent to showcase their work due to the dominance of existing talent. Also, it increases the cost of making films due to relocation and logistic issues. Due to this a number of outstanding talent goes in vein or can't make it to showcase their work.

That is the reason, there is a huge demand to have a new cinema in northern India and create a pool of fresh talent. The solution to solve this issue is DELHIWOOD.
